Tesla's new car registrations in Germany nearly quadrupled in October 2026 from a year earlier, according to figures from Germany's Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) reported by Reuters via Euronext. Tesla registered 2,932 cars in the month, up 290.9%.
From January to October, Tesla's German registrations rose 206.1% to 47,742.
Faster than the wider EV market
Germany's battery-electric registrations also grew strongly, rising 79.5% to 94,086 in October, Reuters reported. Even so, Tesla's share of all new registrations in the month was 1.2%, behind BYD at 2.0% and Leapmotor at 1.4%, with Xpeng at 0.5%.
The overall German car market grew far more slowly. KBA press release 44/2026, published on 4 November, put total new car registrations at 254,492, up 1.7%, according to Mein Tesla Blog. Registrations by private owners rose 20.6% and made up 40.7% of the total.
A quieter month than September
The year-on-year jump hides a big drop from the month before. Mein Tesla Blog's figures show Tesla registered 12,552 cars in Germany in September, so October's 2,932 was about 77% lower month on month.
Berlin production claims
Tesla commentator Sawyer Merritt posted on X: "Tesla's car registrations in Germany were up 290% YoY in Germany in October." In the same post he said Gigafactory Berlin built 7,000 Model Ys in one week a couple of weeks ago, that the target is 7,500 a week, and that more than 2,000 new jobs are planned. Those production and jobs claims come from his post and have not been independently verified.
Tesla's supervised self-driving software is not yet approved in Germany, according to Mein Tesla Blog, which noted that the Dutch regulator RDW approved changes on 3 November.
Whether October's year-on-year growth turns into steadily higher monthly volumes will only be clear once more months of KBA data are in.
