Chinese outlets say Jetta's first electric sedan, the M6, passed 10,000 orders within 19 hours of going on sale

Wall Street CN and CarNewsChina say Jetta's first battery-electric car, the M6, passed 10,000 locked orders within 19 hours of going on sale on 22 October. Global Times, on 25 October, says 10,000 orders and does not use the word locked. The price band in all three is 79,800 to 99,800 yuan.

FAW-Volkswagen's Jetta brand put its first battery-electric car, the M6 sedan, on sale in China on 22 October 2026, and Chinese outlets say orders passed 10,000 within 19 hours. Wall Street CN, in a story timestamped 23 October at 20:56, says Jetta announced that day that locked orders for the M6, its first new-energy model, had reached 10,000 in the 19 hours after the launch. CarNewsChina, on 24 October, says the joint venture said it took 19 hours to pass 10,000 locked orders after the 22 October launch. Global Times, published at 15:31 on 25 October, says Jetta secured 10,000 orders for the M6 within 19 hours of going on sale, and that the car went on sale on Thursday. It does not use the word locked. This desk did not open a Jetta or FAW-Volkswagen release of its own. The tally is what these outlets attribute to the company.

All three put the price band at 79,800 to 99,800 yuan, and all three say every version sits under 100,000 yuan. Wall Street CN names three versions: the 465 Pro at 79,800 yuan, the 555 Max at 89,800 yuan, and the 555 Ultra at 99,800 yuan. It says the first two are each 1,000 yuan under their earlier pre-sale prices, and that the top price stayed at 99,800 yuan. CarNewsChina prints the same band and converts it to about 11,900 to 14,900 U.S. dollars. Global Times converts only the low end, to 11,960 dollars. The yuan prices match. The dollar conversions are each outlet's, and they do not match each other. This desk is not picking a dollar price.

Wall Street CN and CarNewsChina agree on a wheelbase of 2,820 mm and on two CLTC range ratings, 465 km and 555 km. From there the details diverge, and each should stay with the outlet that printed it. Wall Street CN says the official 30-to-80 percent fast-charge time is 25 minutes, and that the 99,800 yuan 555 Ultra uses a Horizon Robotics Journey 6M chip and supports navigation assistance in cities and on highways. CarNewsChina says the entry model has a 113 kW front motor and a 42.9 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate pack for the 465 km rating, and that higher versions have a 145 kW motor and a 51.9 kWh pack for 555 km. It says 0-to-100 km/h times go from 8.3 seconds to 6.8 seconds, that CALB supplies both packs, and that every version is front-wheel drive. It also gives exterior size as 4,806 mm by 1,868 mm by 1,500 mm, and vehicle-to-load output of up to 3.5 kW. Neither of the other two stories this desk opened prints the kilowatt-hour figures. This desk did not open a Jetta specification sheet to check them.

CarNewsChina explains a locked order as one a buyer cannot cancel without losing a deposit, and it says that deposit is usually around 3,000 to 5,000 yuan. That explanation is the outlet's. The sentence that attributes a number to the joint venture is the "10,000 locked orders" claim, not a printed deposit tariff. Wall Street CN uses "locked orders" as well and does not print a deposit amount. Global Times says "orders."

None of the three says the 10,000 have been delivered. Wall Street CN says the 19-hour tally is a first batch of orders waiting to be delivered, and that whether those orders arrive on time, and whether new orders continue after the opening rush, is what will show the sales result later. That is the outlet's caution. It fits the ordinary gap between a deposit and a registration. A locked-order claim is still a company claim as reported. It is not a count from the China Passenger Car Association.

Global Times adds commercial context and attributes the brand's recent volume to Yicai: annual sales peaked around 170,000 in 2021 and were 118,000 in 2025. This desk did not open the Yicai article. Global Times also says that, in a Volkswagen press release from August 2025, the group said Jetta would introduce four electric models by 2028, and it quotes Ralf Brandstätter, a Volkswagen AG board member responsible for China, saying that electrifying Jetta was a way into the fast-growing entry segment and part of coverage across major segments. That quote is Global Times citing the 2025 release. It is not a comment on the 19-hour tally. The same story says Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the passenger-car association, told Global Times that the launch carries broader implications for joint-venture makers built around combustion cars. The story's closing quotation is garbled on the page this desk opened, so this desk is not treating that closing line as a usable quote.

Both Wall Street CN and Global Times, each citing the passenger-car association, say retail new-energy sales were 12.809 million in 2025, up 17.6 percent, with penetration of 54 percent. That is a full-year market figure from those outlets. It is not a figure this desk re-added from monthly tables, and it is a different series from the association's October 2026 forecast.

Analysis

Two outlets, a day apart, say Jetta described the 10,000 as locked orders after sales began on 22 October. A third, Global Times, says 10,000 orders and does not say locked. The shared, checkable commercial facts are the on-sale date, the 19-hour claim as each outlet words it, and the yuan price band. Motor output, pack size, charge time, and a deposit amount each appear in only one of these stories. Orders, locked or not, are not deliveries and not a market-share result. The October retail forecast elsewhere on this desk is the association's estimate for the whole market, not a Jetta line.
